Science News from the SETI group meeting:
There have been a couple of power glitches happening down at Arecibo. IWe've been getting a lot of unexpected re-boots on the SERENDIP Machine down in Arecibo. Basically, he IBOBs have been staying up and the computers have been going down. Andrew thinks it's becuase couple of cables might be switched around and improperly connected. Andrew will call the guys down at Arecibo and have them take a look at it.
In the Kepler field observations: Andrew and Paul (at Greenbank) We are almost ready to get going on observations, pretty much all that is left to do coding-wise is a 2-bit to 8-bit conversion calculation. Then we'll point the dish at a pulsar to test whether the files we are writing are correct. If they are correct, we can proceed with the observation of candidates. It seems pretty reasonable to say we'll be able to start observing soon. With a full 800 MHz band, two polarizations, and 24 hours of Greenbank telescope observation time, rest assured that there will be Kepler field SETI data for you all to chew in the near future.
In crowd sourcing news, Jeff and Matt are continuing to do the testing on the NTPCKr and the Waterfalls. Also, version 7 of SETI@home client is working well for most operating systems, though Eric has to redo some of the Linux versions.
For those of you in the Bay Area, Dan will be giving his general talk on SETI during UC Berkeley's Cal Day, which is open to the public. If you're interested, it's happening from 1-2 PM this Saturday, April 16th in 2 Leconte Hall on the Berkeley Campus. See you there!
