There are just a few short updates from this week's meeting:
One interesting proposition came up: Our science database, which runs on Informix, is having performance problems, and it was suggested that we consider moving to a different engine. Part of the problem is that NITPKcr hasn’t been able to really run on the Science database. The current solution: We will commission an unpaid undergraduate to do a feasibility study on a potential switch.
We have begun to send out data that is already blanked by the new software radar blanker. We are still working out some kinks in the process, but soon we want to start using the radar blanking software on Astropulse data (serendipitous timing, since we happen to be out of new Astropulse data at the moment).
Dave wasn’t here today, but instead is attending the annual BOINC conference at CERN in Switzerland. It also happens that Monday was his Birthday. Happy Birthday, Dave!
And there’s more good news: Jeff is back (alive, and in one piece, we think) from his epic trek across the Himalayas—rumor has it he made it to Everest base Camp. Still no word on the YETI@Home project, but Jeff will be back in the office later this week. We look forward to welcoming him back.
