Other News: Luis Quintero, a digital engineer down at the Arecibo Observatory, has notified us of structural problems on the telescope’s dome-holder. The telescope is still doing observation with its 327 megahertz line feed, and full functionality will be back by the 15th of march.
CASPER recently conducted an experiment for its Mars Lightning project, observing the Crab pulsar and searching for pulses by determining the Gaussianity of radiation from each band of voltages. The experimenters detected the pulsar’s pulses, and this method, called kurtosis analysis, may represent a novel method of finding pulses for SETI projects.
